Cairns Basketball is excited to announce the rebrand and expansion of its new program for junior players, introducing Mini Marlins for boys and Mini Dolphins for girls, designed to inspire a love of basketball from an early age.
Formerly known as Tiny Taipans, the popular introductory program has been refreshed as Mini Marlins, catering to boys aged 4–7. Designed to build confidence, coordination and a love of basketball, the program provides a fun, supportive environment at Trinity Ford Stadium.
The Mini Marlins and Mini Dolphins programs will run together, giving boys and girls the opportunity to build confidence, coordination, teamwork and basic basketball skills while developing a love of the game from an early age. Sessions are structured but playful, focusing on skill development and teamwork rather than the pressure of
competition. The program also provides a clear and direct pathway into Cairns Basketball’s junior club competition, helping young players and families take the next step when they are ready.

This program focuses on fun, movement, coordination and basic basketball skills, helping young players build confidence while enjoying active play. All registered participants will receive a singlet, water bottle, and gear bag as part of their sign-up.
Cairns Basketball General Manager Luca Vergari said the rebrand and program expansion reflect the association’s commitment to early participation and family-friendly pathways.
“These programs are about creating positive first experiences with basketball,” Mr Vergari said.
“Mini Marlins and Mini Dolphins give young boys and girls a welcoming entry point into our sport, while building confidence, skills and a lifelong love of the game.”
“Getting into the sport early can also nurture talent that may eventually see these little players on the NBL1 North track and beyond.”
Registrations are now open, with limited places available. Families are encouraged to register via the Cairns Basketball website to secure a spot for the 2026 season.
