Cairns Basketball is excited to announce the rebrand and expansion of its New Wave Hoops Programs for junior players, introducing Mini Marlins for boys and Mini Dolphins for girls, designed to inspire a love of basketball from an early age.
Formerly known as Tiny Taipans, the popular introductory program has been refreshed as Mini Marlins, catering to boys aged 4–7. Designed to build confidence, coordination and a love of basketball, the program provides a fun, supportive environment at the Fish Bowl. Sessions are structured but playful, focusing on skill development and teamwork rather than the pressure of competition.
Alongside this, Cairns Basketball is proud to introduce Mini Dolphins, a dedicated program for girls aged 4–7. Like the Mini Marlins, the program focuses on developing fundamental skills, confidence and teamwork in a positive and engaging environment.
Both programs are aimed at creating a fun, safe and welcoming space for young players and their families to begin their basketball journey. Numbers are capped to keep sessions engaging and ensure each participant receives the support they need.
Each program focuses on fun, movement, coordination and basic basketball skills, helping young players build confidence while enjoying active play. All registered participants will receive a program kit as part of their sign-up and the fees are CBI competition – $225.00 incl GST and a singlet as well as BQ membership – $7.45 incl GST (per annum).
Registrations are now open, with limited places available. Families are encouraged to register via the Cairns Basketball website to secure a spot for the 2026 season.
