Cairns Basketball are inviting applications from experienced, ambitious and highly motivated basketball coaches for the position of Head Coach of the Cairns Dolphins NBL1 Women’s team for the 2027 NBL1 North Season.
The Head Coach will take responsibility for the leadership and on-court direction of the Cairns Dolphins NBL1 Women’s program, working in partnership with the club to establish a successful, sustainable and high-performing program.
The successful applicant will work collaboratively with Cairns Basketball across areas including player recruitment, program administration and operational requirements.
A major focus of the position will be creating an environment where players and staff are challenged to perform at their highest level while being part of a positive, connected and accountable team culture. The Head Coach will set the standards for the program and play a key role in building an identity that reflects the values, ambition and pride of the Cairns Dolphins and the broader organisation.
The position will also provide an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the NBL1 Women’s program and the Dolphins’ junior programs. The Head Coach will be expected to contribute to the creation of a strong local player pathway, identifying talented young athletes and supporting their progression towards senior representative and NBL1 basketball.
Developing meaningful relationships with junior coaches and emerging players will be an important component of the role. The successful candidate will help create an environment where aspiring Cairns athletes can see a genuine pathway into the NBL1 program and understand what is required to reach that level.
The NBL1 Women’s Head Coach will be a highly visible representative of the Cairns Dolphins and will be expected to actively contribute to the broader basketball community.
The role extends beyond game day. The Head Coach will build strong and respectful relationships with players, coaches, families, volunteers, sponsors, junior participants and supporters, helping strengthen the connection between the NBL1 team and the wider basketball community.
